Welcome to Anubis.

Whether it's your very first piercing or you're adding something new to your collection, our aim is to make your experience relaxed, professional and as comfortable as possible.

We offer a wide range of ear, facial and body piercings from our studio in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, with high-quality jewellery and full aftercare advice.

We understand that getting pierced can feel a little daunting — particularly for younger clients or anyone who is nervous. We'll take the time to talk you through everything, answer your questions and make sure you're comfortable before we begin.

YOUR PIERCING APPOINTMENT

Before your piercing, we'll discuss the piercing you'd like, assess the area and help you choose appropriate jewellery.

The area will be carefully prepared and the position marked so you can check and approve the placement before your piercing is performed.

We'll explain what we're doing throughout the appointment and you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions.

Once your piercing is complete, we'll explain how to look after it properly while it heals.

Not every piercing is suitable for every anatomy. Your piercer will assess the area before proceeding and may recommend an alternative if a particular piercing isn't suitable.

CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE

We want younger clients to have a positive, comfortable piercing experience.

For piercings requiring parental consent, a parent or legal guardian must be present and appropriate identification may be required.

Our current age policy is:

Ear piercings: available to younger clients with parental consent/presence, subject to assessment, 7yrs and over.

Nose & navel: from 14 years, with parental consent and a parent/legal guardian present if under 16.

Nipple piercings: strictly 18+.

ID may be required, so please bring suitable photographic identification where applicable.

We reserve the right to decline a piercing if we feel that the client, anatomy or circumstances make it unsuitable.

JEWELLERY

The jewellery you wear during the initial healing period is particularly important.

Your initial jewellery will be selected to suit the piercing and allow room for the normal swelling that can occur following a new piercing.

Once the initial swelling has settled, some piercings benefit from having the jewellery downsized. Your piercer will advise you if and when this is appropriate.

Please don't change your jewellery too early. A piercing can look healed externally while the tissue inside is still delicate and healing.

PIERCING AFTERCARE

Good aftercare gives your new piercing the best opportunity to heal successfully.

Cleaning Your Piercing

Always wash your hands before touching your piercing.

Use a sterile saline wound wash containing 0.9% sodium chloride with no unnecessary additives.

Gently spray/rinse the piercing with the saline and allow any softened crust or discharge to come away naturally.

Dry carefully using clean disposable gauze or another clean disposable product.

Do not twist, turn or rotate your jewellery.

Modern professional aftercare guidance specifically advises leaving the jewellery still while the piercing heals.

WHAT NOT TO USE

Please don't use:
Surgical spirit/alcohol
Hydrogen peroxide
Iodine
Strong antiseptics
Antibacterial soaps
Ointments

These products can irritate or damage healing tissue, and over-cleaning can also delay healing.

WHILE YOUR PIERCING IS HEALING

Try to leave your piercing alone apart from necessary cleaning.

Avoid unnecessary touching, playing with the jewellery or putting pressure on the piercing.

Be careful with clothing, towels, headphones, hairbrushes, phones and anything else that could catch or irritate your new piercing.

For ear piercings, try not to sleep directly on the piercing while it's healing.

Keep bedding clean and take care around gym equipment and other surfaces that may introduce bacteria.

Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs and natural bodies of water while your piercing is healing.

WHAT'S NORMAL?

A new piercing is a healing wound.

During the early stages you may experience:

Tenderness
Localised swelling
Minor bruising
Occasional slight bleeding
Itching
Light-coloured fluid that dries into crust around the jewellery

These can all occur during normal healing.

Healing isn't always completely linear either. A piercing may seem settled and then become irritated after being knocked, slept on or caught.

PIERCING BUMPS & IRRITATION

If a bump appears around your piercing, don't automatically assume it's infected and don't start applying tea tree oil or strong antiseptics.

Irritation can have several causes, including pressure, friction, jewellery movement, snagging or inappropriate jewellery.

Sometimes a simple change — such as removing the source of irritation or downsizing jewellery when appropriate — can make a significant difference.

WHEN TO GET MEDICAL HELP

Please seek medical advice if you develop symptoms that concern you, particularly:

Increasing or spreading redness
Significant heat or swelling
Severe or worsening pain
Thick or foul-smelling discharge
Red streaking from the area
Fever or feeling generally unwell

If you suspect an infection, don't simply remove the jewellery yourself. Speak to an appropriate healthcare professional and let them advise you.

HEALING TIMES

Every person — and every piercing — heals differently.

Healing time depends on the piercing location, your general health, lifestyle, aftercare and whether the piercing experiences irritation or trauma.

It's important to remember that a piercing can look healed on the outside before it has completely healed internally.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does getting pierced hurt?

Everyone experiences pain differently, but the piercing itself is usually very quick. We'll talk you through the process and won't rush you.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. If having someone with you helps you feel more comfortable, please ask us when booking.

Can I bring my own jewellery?

For a new piercing we need to know that the jewellery is appropriate in material, size, style and quality for an initial piercing, so please speak to us beforehand.

When can I change my jewellery?

This depends on the piercing and how it is healing. Don't judge healing simply by how the outside looks. If you're unsure, let us check it for you first.

My piercing has a bump. What should I do?

Don't pick it or start experimenting with oils and antiseptics. Contact us so we can assess the piercing and help identify what's irritating it.

Do you offer jewellery changes?

Yes — please contact us if you'd like help changing jewellery or would like to choose something new for an established piercing.
